Across the Kenyan market you will see installed car trackers advertised from about KSh 5,500 to KSh 15,000 and more. The price alone does not tell you much: what matters is what is included, and what you pay every year after.
What you are paying for
- The tracker device. Cheap no-name gadgets cost less, but many lose signal, drain the car battery or stop working within months. Branded devices like Teltonika last longer and send more accurate data.
- Installation. A hidden, hard-wired installation takes skill. If a thief can see the tracker, they can pull it out in seconds. Ours is included in the price, and free at your home or office within 8 km of our branches.
- The SIM card and airtime. The tracker uses a SIM card to send its location. We supply and set up the SIM. You either load the airtime yourself, or choose the option with a full year already loaded.
- The tracking app. Live location, trip history, alerts and remote engine cut-off on your phone. We install it, set your alerts and show you how to use it.
- Warranty and support. Every tracker we fit has a 2-year warranty.
Yearly costs: what happens after the first year
A tracker needs airtime to stay online. With our VT05, renewal is KSh 2,500 a year if you load the airtime yourself (Basic), or KSh 3,000 a year with Plus. For our Teltonika trackers, the yearly renewal is KSh 3,500 to KSh 6,000, depending on the model and package, plus KSh 500 if you want us to load the year’s airtime for you.
Some companies charge a monthly subscription instead. Before you choose any tracker, ask: “What will I pay every month or every year, and what happens if I stop paying?” A low device price with a high monthly fee often costs more over two or three years.
At Carkey Masters we don’t offer pay-as-you-go (monthly) plans. You pay once for the tracker and installation, then a yearly renewal.
What makes one car tracker cost more than another?
- Remote engine cut-off: lets you stop a stolen car from your phone. Needs a cut-off relay, which we fit on request.
- Jamming detection: car thieves in Nairobi use signal jammers. The FMB920 detects them and raises an alert.
- Backup battery: keeps the tracker reporting if a thief cuts the car’s power.
- Car data: OBD trackers like the FMB003 can read real mileage, fuel level and fault codes on supported cars, which is useful for company cars.
- Wireless design: battery-powered trackers like the VT03D can be hidden anywhere, with no wiring.
- Extras: a listen-in microphone (KSh 800) lets you hear what is happening inside the car.
A tracker can pay for itself through your insurance
Most Kenyan comprehensive motor policies charge a much lower theft excess when a tracking device is fitted. One published policy charges 20% of the car’s value without an anti-theft device, but only 2.5% with a tracker. On a KSh 2,000,000 car, that is KSh 50,000 instead of KSh 400,000 if the car is stolen. Rates differ between insurers, so check your own policy.
After installation we give you a tracker installation certificate to share with your insurer or broker. Work out your own saving →

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to install a car tracker in Kenya?
At Carkey Masters, installation is included in the tracker price, from KSh 8,500. It is free at your home or office within 8 km of our Westlands and Kiambu Road branches. Further away, a transport charge applies depending on your location.
Is there a monthly fee for a car tracker?
No. Our trackers have no monthly fee and we don’t offer pay-as-you-go plans. You pay a yearly renewal: KSh 2,500 (Basic) or KSh 3,000 (Plus) for the VT05, and KSh 3,500 to KSh 6,000 for Teltonika trackers (add KSh 500 to include the year’s airtime).
Which is the best car tracker in Kenya?
For most private cars, a hidden, hard-wired tracker with engine cut-off is the best protection. For the highest protection, choose one that detects signal jammers and has a backup battery, like the Teltonika FMB920.
Can a car tracker lower my insurance?
It can lower your theft excess. Many insurers charge a much smaller excess on a theft claim when a tracker is fitted. We give you an installation certificate to show your insurer.
How long does installation take?
Most installations take 1 to 2 hours. We come to your home or office, or you can visit one of our branches.
