How Does A GPS Car Tracking System Work?

How Does A GPS Car Tracking System Work?

Around 1300 cars are stolen each year in Kenya according to the Association of Kenya Insurers, that’s about 4 cars each day lost due to carjackings and/or break-ins.

One of the ways of finding these stolen cars is through GPS car tracking systems.

We’ve all heard of GPS tracking systems but have we ever taken time to really understand how these systems work and how they are used to find stolen cars?

At Carkey Masters  we not only help you with your car key programming, or duplication needs, one of the other services we offer is GPS car tracking installation.

With that in mind, Let’s dive into what GPS trackers are and how they work.

What is GPS Tracking?

GPS stands for Global Positioning System (bet you didn’t know that).

It uses the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) to function.

The system consists of a network of 24 satellites in orbit, and ground-based sensors that can pinpoint a person’s or object’s precise location on Earth.

In case you weren’t aware, this technology has been around for quite some time.

In the 1960s, GPS was developed for military use. It was first made available to the general public in 1983, and the system has only  advanced since then.

It’s now used for everything from military drills to kids playing Among Us on their smartphones.

How Does GPS Tracking Work?

GPS requires the use of a significant number of satellites orbiting the Earth. These satellites relay their locations and status in real time above us.

The GPS Master Control Station, as well as other tracking and monitoring stations on the ground, are constantly monitoring this to ensure accuracy and efficient operation.

In the event that something goes wrong, the Master Control Station is also in charge of repairs and maintenance.

These signals are received by a GPS system on Earth, which computes the data and interprets it.

How Does GPS Car Tracking Work?

When a GPS car tracker is installed in a car, the GNSS can provide both real-time and historical data. It achieves this by the application of a mathematical principle known as trilateration.

Based on data from at least four GPS satellites, they will be able to calculate the vehicle’s real-time position, speed, and location.

While this is a lot of powerful technology that seems to be expensive or take up a lot of space in a car, neither of these things are true.

GPS is really just a system, and if it can run on your computer, it can definitely run on a device that you can install in your car.

In fact, the GPS tracking systems that are currently available are quite small and invisible. They can also be quickly and easily installed in your car.

Here at Carkey Masters, we take our time to install the GPS tracker in places that are not easy to find within the car.

Although the system is small, it packs a punch in terms of performance.

The devices have an internal memory for storing data, as well as a backup battery and a SIM card for connecting to the Internet.

The device will collect the data from GPS satellites and use it to determine its location. It will then use the GSM cellular network to transfer the data to the server.

The server safely stores this information received from the tracker.

There are some great benefits of the systems, like the ease with which users can get their hands on this data.

All of this information would be available on request.

They can also see real-time data from anywhere in the world, at any time, as long as they have access to the internet.

The information can be accessed on a web interface or smartphone app.

Since the vast majority of the people nowadays own a smartphone, they would want to download the app.

This allows them to receive alerts about their car regardless of where they are, which helps make the car safer since the owner will know right away if something is wrong.

Data is collected in several ways, providing you with a comprehensive overview and real-time view of anything suspicious going on with your car.

This includes information such as when the vehicle starts, when it moves, the speed, and driving habits, among many other things.

All of this data can be incredibly useful in a wide range of situations.

Conclusion

Now that you understand how GPS works and why a GPS in the car might be a great choice for the safety of your car, it’s time to have one installed in your vehicle.

It’s a simple and inexpensive way to get the extra protection you need from all of the dangers that your car faces in the real world.

Did we mention that we have a user-friendly smartphone app that’s supported on both Android and iPhone and comes with a 1-year warranty too?

Reach out to us for GPS Car Tracking System installation in Nairobi as well as any other car alarm and key needs you may have.

Until next time, cheers!
